How we score fishing

Excellent — Moving tide, stable or slowly falling pressure, dawn or dusk.
Good — Two of the above and light wind.
Fair — Slack water or rising pressure.
Poor — Strong wind, rough sea or storms.

Before you go

  • The two hours around each tide change usually fish best — the water starts moving and bait fish with it.
  • A slowly falling barometer before a front often turns the bite on; right after a front it slows down.
  • New and full moon bring the strongest tides.
  • Check local fishing rules: licences, sizes and closed seasons change by place.

Good to know

Most fish feed when the water moves. That is why the tide curve and the moon matter more than the weather for a lot of species.

The depth map helps find drop-offs, channels and banks, where fish gather. Sea marks show channels and wrecks for boat anglers.

Piers, boat ramps and tackle shops come from OpenStreetMap — zoom in and tap "Show in this area".
